Focus Questions:

(1)   Who are the authors?

 - The authors are Susan Richbourg Parker and William S. Coker

(5) Identify and discuss the issue of “perspective” with regards to Anglo writings of Spanish Government

 - The issue with that happened was that Anglo writings and speakers were worried what their fate may be. With them being different in the time, some didn't know exactly what was going to happen or go on. They were indifferent about crops, timber, races and writings.

(2)   How did Spain cede one territory and receive two back twenty years later?

 - They gained land back for the peace negotiations of the Treaty of Versailles. They went into war with the British and gain their land back.

(5) Describe the two territories, their locations, capitols, and industry & resources

- One of the territories was ranging west as far as the Mississippi river and it is governed by two capitals. These two capitals were Pensacola and St. Augustine.

- Second of the territories was ranging from the Chattahoochee to the Apalachicola rives on the east. The Isle of Orleans and Maurepas created the southern boundary, it was governed by one capitol and its resource's were high on water.

(8)What are some of the turning points for the rapid turnover of FL (Spanish/British/Spanish/U.S.)

- Some of the turning points included a smaller military, less funding for certain parts of the government, different cultures and religions being brought in at different times. Each of these making different turning points at different times in Florida, all of these had a different affect inside the state itself.

(5) Present evidence of Political, Social, and Economic influence/affects in Chapter 10

- Political: Government was looked down upon because of the choices the Spanish made with money and where it went. the governor's complained and arrival of things were off in time.

-  Economic: during this time, the areas that were most protected were the ones that had more money. Therefore, the Spanish made sure to protect the "Crown" before anywhere else. On another note, with the military that they used and was present in east Florida was financially disproportionate to some places productivity.

 - Social: The population in Florida continued to grow until the divide, when the divide happened, West Florida's population reduced by 50%.

(2)What do you find most interesting about this article?

- I found it interesting that people in Spanish Florida could only worship the Roman Catholic church but were allowed to worship another in private. Why I found this interesting is that if they were only allowed to worship one, why would it be okay to worship another without anyone seeing. What is the consequence? I also found it interesting that they would worship the Roman side of catholic when they are from Spain.

My choice of text: " The Roman Catholic faith was the only religion officially permitted in the Spanish Floridas although persons of other religious denominations could worship in private"
